TikTok captions need to be checked in the vertical video itself: readability in the editing program does not guarantee readability under the app interface. Separate the short on-screen title from the spoken text so the two layers do not compete for the same space.
Two different kinds of text
Text already embedded in the exported video file remains part of the image. It cannot be treated as an editable caption track. TikTok describes automatic captions with the ability to edit the text; the official announcement from 2025 confirms that this feature remains among the accessibility tools.
Check the availability of the buttons and the supported languages in your own app. An old launch announcement in two languages is not the current full list. If automatic recognition is unavailable for your speech or makes mistakes, prepare a proofread version by whatever means are available, without passing it off as automatically checked.
Example of a product demonstration
In a hypothetical video, the creator says: “Press and hold the button for two seconds.” The on-screen title might be “First power-on,” while the captions must convey the action itself. If the screen only says “Two seconds,” a viewer without sound will not understand that holding is required.
Check the speech phrase by phrase, then watch the video all the way through with the sound off. Is there enough time to read the line? Is it clear which object the words refer to? Does the text cover the button being demonstrated? Remove unnecessary styling if it interferes with the instruction.
Check the viewer’s screen
Watch the video on an ordinary phone in the app, taking into account the caption, the bottom navigation, and the side buttons. Do not rely on a single universal “safe zone” in pixels: interfaces and devices vary. Record the test conditions together with the layout version.
After changing the edit, recheck the text. Old captions may remain grammatically correct but refer to an action that has already been removed. Accessibility here is verified by comprehension of the instruction, not by the amount of text or a promise of additional reach.
