An alternative photo description for TikTok should convey essential information to a person who is listening to a screen reader. Describe the subject, the action, and the important difference between shots. A list of search words and the phrase "beautiful product photo" do not accomplish this task.
What the platform confirms
TikTok reported support for alt text for photo posts, added during upload and after publication. In the same announcement, automatic description via AI is called a feature under testing. Do not count on it being available to every author or on it flawlessly recognizing your product model.
Find the alternative text field in the accessible interface of the photo post. If the needed action is not there, check the help section and the app update; still preserve the key meaning in the regular caption. The presence of the field does not replace checking the result with a screen reader.
Example for a series of photographs
The sample post shows a bag from the outside and inside. For the first shot, the description "Dark bag with short handles and a side pocket" is suitable. For the second — "Inside there are two compartments; the laptop is placed in a separate soft pocket." A statement about capacity is acceptable only if the specific item is shown and verified; do not invent the size from the photograph.
If the image contains instructions or meaningful text, convey its meaning in accessible text nearby. Do not repeat the same description under all shots: the reader needs to understand what new information the second photo provides.
Editorial acceptance
Read the description without the image. Then compare it with the shot: is there any evaluation such as "the most convenient," a missing limitation, or customer data. Ask a colleague to check the reading sequence on a phone. This is work on accessibility, not a proven way to increase recommendations or sales. For video content, other means of description are needed; the alt text of a photo post does not replace video captions.
Scheme: 1 — identify the meaning of a specific shot; 2 — write a factual description; 3 — check the reading without the image.

Related task: Shorts without sound and interface cues: checking whether a video is understandable.

If, in addition to the photo post, you are preparing a separate public TikTok video, you can check the terms for video views. The form relates to the video, not to writing alt text and not to views of the photo publication. Purchased activity does not guarantee organic interest or sales.
