The clarity of Shorts is worth checking in two independent modes: without sound and without interface elements. The visuals should explain the action on their own, while important words should remain readable. This is a check of whether the meaning is accessible, not a recipe for getting into recommendations.
What changes in the player
YouTube 25 June 2026 announced Clear Screen, which temporarily hides interface icons and text, with a gradual rollout. Do not build the meaning of the video on an arrow pointing to a player button or on a label that the viewer can hide. The mere existence of the mode does not mean that everyone watches without the interface.
Three viewings of one draft
First, turn off the sound. Can you understand what is happening and how the demonstration ended? Then close the external labels and mentally remove the app buttons: will the object remain clear? The third time, turn the sound on and compare what is said with what is visible. A contradiction is not fixed with additional subtitles.
Example: the creator shows replacing an attachment. Before the action, one needs to distinguish the old and the new part; during it, to see the fastening; after it, to understand that the connection is secured. The phrase "like this" without a close-up does not help a person without sound. Add short meaningful captions, and leave the technical instruction in an accessible text description.
How to evaluate the result
Ask someone who was not involved in the editing to name the action and the next step. Do not prompt the answer. If they guess based on a familiar product, repeat the check with an unfamiliar viewer. Write down the specific moment of misunderstanding and fix exactly that.
Check the contrast, text size, reading time, and the absence of an important object behind overlays on a real phone. Proofread the automatic subtitles: an erroneous name of a part can change the meaning. Do not speed up a dangerous or complex operation so much that the viewer misses a limitation.
