Transferring ownership of a Telegram channel is a separate action that must be prepared and confirmed with the recipient. Assigning an administrator does not mean the owner has already changed. Do not hand over your personal account, password, or login code along with the channel.
Check the channel and the recipient
Telegram confirms the ability to transfer ownership of a group or channel to another member while remaining in the chat. A February update 2026 also described automatic transfer after the owner leaves the group. Do not apply this rule to a channel, and do not use leaving as a substitute for a controlled transfer.
Before taking action, agree on the exact channel, the recipient's account, and the roles going forward. Verify not only the visible name, which can be duplicated, but also your known correspondence with the person. If the contact has changed their name or sent a new profile, confirm the change through an already agreed communication method.
Prepare a workable transfer
Make a list of related tasks: the posting schedule, discussion, bots, website links, and the person responsible for inquiries. Channel ownership does not prove that access to an external website, storage, or team arrangements has been transferred. Such access is arranged separately, without forwarding shared passwords.
In the channel management settings, open the available ownership transfer action and carefully read the app's current requirements. If Telegram shows a waiting period or an account protection requirement, comply with it: this article does not promise an immediate transfer and does not offer ways to bypass restrictions.
Completion and verification
Carry out the action when the recipient can confirm the result. After the transfer, check the displayed owner and the remaining permissions of the previous team. Do not remove yourself or other members before verifying the necessary work actions.
Separately, make sure that the public address, discussion, and scheduled materials work as expected. A conditional transfer record may contain the date, channel, and agreed roles; login codes and personal secrets are not recorded there. If the choice of account raises doubt, stop before confirming an irreversible action.
