The Replace file feature in SoundCloud lets you replace the audio of an existing track while keeping its stats and comments. But it is available only with certain subscriptions and does not apply to tracks already monetized through SoundCloud for Artists. First check the state of the recording, then prepare the replacement.
Separate the two circuits
The Replace file help page lists the Artist and Artist Pro subscriptions and separately notes the monetization restriction. If a track is already monetized in the specified circuit, the help page requires a new upload. Do not work around this restriction by renaming the file, and do not promise that all metrics will be preserved with a new publication.
Replacing a recording on the SoundCloud page is also not the same as updating the audio in a release that a distributor has sent out to other platforms. A distributed release needs its own change procedure. This guide covers only the available replacement of the file of an existing SoundCloud track.
Prepare the new version
Keep the previous file, the exact link, and a description of the fix. The hypothetical author removes a technical click while leaving the performance unchanged. They listen in advance to the beginning, the corrected section, and the end of the new file, and check the duration and the version name.
In Artist Studio, open the menu of the desired track and Replace file, if the action is available. Select the prepared file, wait for the upload to finish, and only then save the changes. Do not confuse a matching name in the list with confirmation of the right track: verify the artwork and the link.
What to check afterward
Open the previous URL as a listener and listen to the corrected section. Verify the description and the version notes. If the duration has become shorter, previous comments with timestamps need attention: the help page warns that they may disappear from the shortened waveform while remaining in the comments section.
Do not present a listener's old reaction to the original version as feedback on the new mix. If the content has changed substantially, explain the change. If the new version is a different song, the issue is no longer merely technical; a preserved counter should not hide the substitution of the object from the audience.
