Replying via Shorts is useful when it matters to keep the connection to a specific comment under your video. Use the built-in reply rather than just uploading a similar clip: YouTube links such a Short to the original thread and notifies the comment's author.
Find that exact comment
The official help describes two paths: replying from the comments and selecting a comment in the Shorts creation tool. Before recording, check which video the question was left under. If several viewers asked the same thing, do not attribute someone else's wording to one person.
When you reply, the selected comment appears as a sticker. It can be moved and resized. First assess whether it covers the object being demonstrated and whether it contains data that should not be further distributed. A question with a phone number or details of a private order is better handled privately and not carried over into a public sticker.
Example of a linked reply
An author's script: under a video about assembling a shelf, someone asked which screwdriver is needed. The author opens that comment, starts a reply, and shows the tool next to the fasteners. In the first sentence, name the subject of the question: "For the screws from the kit shown, you need this bit." A viewer who comes across the Short separately from the original video should understand the limits of the answer.
If there are several configurations, specify which one the demonstration relates to. Do not turn the answer "for this kit" into a promise that the tool fits all the store's products. To link to another of your own clips, check the built-in linked video feature and its availability for the channel; do not treat a regular URL in the Shorts description as a clickable link.
Check after publishing
Go back to the original thread and check the reply's connection. Open the Short separately: the comment is readable, the important part of the frame is visible, and the reply does not depend on invisible backstory. Save the link in a working log of questions so that the next person can be given an already prepared explanation.
The question's author having a notification does not mean they watched the reply or made a purchase. This is a check of the coherence of the communication, not a sales metric.
