Before promoting a long Short, check the actual copyright status in YouTube Studio. The video's duration and the presence of music by themselves do not answer whether your specific file is available to viewers. It is especially important to verify the date: the official help documentation already describes a change beginning 24 September 2026.
What changes and when
As of the check date, 20 September, YouTube states: starting 24 September, new Shorts longer than one but shorter than three minutes with an active Content ID claim will no longer be automatically blocked and may remain available. This is an announcement of a future change, not proof that any video will be available on 21 September. The wording does not cover a video exactly three minutes long and does not cancel the music rights themselves.
This does not mean either "any track is now allowed" or "an old blocked file will necessarily start working at the appointed hour." For a specific video, rely on the notification and the status in Studio. Before launching after 24 September, open the official help documentation again: the transition date requires re-verification.
File check card
Record the duration, upload date, origin of the sound, and the visible claim. Separately check availability via the link in a mode permitted for publication. Keep the original edit and a version with your own speech without the disputed soundtrack, so that a technical sound replacement does not destroy the only working version.
Author's example: a product demonstration lasts 1:40, and the background music is taken from a third-party editing app. The availability of this music in the editor does not confirm the rights to use it on YouTube. Before the advertising announcement, the author checks notifications and decides whether to remove the disputed sound or contest the claim on the basis of the rights they hold.
What to do about a restriction
YouTube suggests removing the claimed content or disputing the claim if it is erroneous. Do not submit a dispute just to speed up the launch: first gather your grounds. A check of availability today is not a perpetual guarantee — the rights holder may claim rights later.
A views service does not remove Content ID, does not grant a license, and does not replace the platform's permission to publish.
