If a factual error is found in a published YouTube video, a correction can be linked to a moment in the video via the Corrections section in the description. This helps the viewer see the clarification, but it does not change the spoken words and does not replace correcting the material itself when the error makes viewing dangerous or useless.
How to prepare a correction
First, write down the incorrect statement, the correct version, and the moment where the error occurred. Verify the clarification against the source document. For example, a review names the wrong day for the start of an event: the correction must contain the correct date and a link to the organizer, not a vague "the information has been updated."
In the description, use the English word `Correction:` or `Corrections:`. On the next line, give the timestamp and an explanation. If there are chapters, place the corrections section after them. This is a YouTube requirement for the section to be recognized, even when the rest of the description is written in Russian.
Do not turn the correction into a new promotional paragraph. One precise explanation is enough; if there are several corrections, each needs its own timestamp and a clear subject of the change. Before saving, make sure the previous links and chapters are still in place.
What to check after saving
Open the public page of the video and go to the relevant fragment. Read the description from a phone: the corrected information must be understandable on its own, apart from the team's internal messages. If the description has been translated into other languages, check the corresponding versions as well.
YouTube warns that the feature is unavailable for some materials, including when there are active strikes — warnings about violating community rules. Do not promise that the correction element will appear merely because the text was saved. If the required display is missing, leave a clear clarification in the description and choose an additional way to inform your audience about the error.
The boundary of the method
A viewer may have already watched or downloaded the old version. A correction does not bring back those views and does not confirm that every person has read the clarification. For a substantial change in content, assess the need for a corrected version of the video and a clear notification of exactly what changed.
