You can remove an unnecessary beginning or a fragment of a YouTube video in the editor of an already uploaded clip while keeping its URL. Before saving, prepare the source file and carefully review the joins: returning to the original via the former Revert to original function is no longer available after saving.
Prepare the edit boundaries
Save the local source file and write down the address of the published video. Note the exact seconds of the fragment being removed and the reason for the edit. Do not start by deleting the entire video: that is a different operation with different consequences for the link.
In Studio, open the desired video and Editor, then Trim & cut. For an internal fragment, a new cut is used; for the beginning and end, the boundaries of the area being kept are used. First turn on the preview. The help documentation limits the feature to videos shorter than six hours and separately warns about editing limitations for some videos with a large number of views.
Review not only the removed place
A hypothetical creator removes twenty seconds of waiting before the demonstration. He checks that after the cut, the explanation of where the object in the frame came from remains, and that the phrase does not begin with a truncated word. Then he reviews the ending: the instruction must retain its meaning in full.
Before Save, cancel the unsuccessful cut or all unconfirmed changes. After saving, you cannot plan work based on the old promise that “we will always restore the original”: YouTube changed this procedure in June 2025. Having the source file allows you to re-edit the file, but a new upload is not the same as rolling back the same URL.
Acceptance of the result
Wait for processing, open the previous link, and check the beginning, the join, and the end. Verify the chapters, captions with time stamps, and links from external publications. Write down which section was changed so that a colleague does not use the old edit in the next announcement.
If access to the editor is restricted, first clarify the reason in Studio and the help documentation. Do not present re-uploading as a guaranteed traceless replacement: the old link, comments, and video history require a separate decision.
