For a TikTok video that promotes a product or service, choose music with commercial use in mind. A popular sound in the app does not mean it can be used in an ad for a workshop or store without additional conditions.
What TikTok confirms
TikTok recommends the Commercial Music Library, or CML, for such content: music from this library is pre-cleared for commercial use within its terms. TikTok's licenses for music outside the CML do not cover commercial use in content. For third-party or original sound, you need to make sure the necessary rights are in place; the name "original sound" itself proves nothing.
The CML help section suggests selecting the campaign region and available placements. Therefore, the presence of a track in one region should not automatically be carried over to another. Verification is needed for the specific method of use, not just for the song title.
Working sound card
Before editing, write down: the track, where it was taken from, the region and placement, the date of verification, and where the terms or confirmation of rights are saved. If a contractor brought the music, ask for this card along with the final video. Do not settle for the message "everyone does it."
Author's example: a store records a demonstration of a bag. The first option is the seller's voice and a suitable CML sound with verified terms. The second is your own music, for which the team can confirm the rights. In both cases, the speech source is stored separately so the accompaniment can be replaced without re-shooting the explanation.
Transferring to other platforms
Permission to use on TikTok should not be considered a universal permission for Reels, YouTube, or a website. Before exporting with music already embedded, re-check the terms for the next placement. If there is no confirmation, it is safer to prepare a version with your own sound, the rights to which are clear, and to address the accompaniment separately.
This is an editorial verification procedure, not a conclusion about the rights to a specific recording. Views of the video do not fix a violation of the music terms and do not guarantee sales.
