Duet and Stitch on TikTok serve different purposes: in a Duet, the parts can be shown side by side, while Stitch includes a fragment of someone else's video in your sequence. Choose the format based on what your work adds, and check permission for reuse in advance.
Two co-creation scenarios
An author's example of a Duet: the master shows the movement of the tool, while a colleague alongside demonstrates an alternative grip. The viewer compares the actions simultaneously. An example of a Stitch: first a short fragment of a question about packaging, then your own demonstration of the solution. If the second author merely repeats the first without a new explanation, the format by itself does not create a useful answer.
Agree with your partner on the meaning of the fragment. Do not cut the caveat in such a way that a cautious piece of advice looks like an unconditional promise. The caption should make clear who the author of the source material is and what you added.
Check the availability of the feature
In the current TikTok help, Duet controls are tied to the content reuse setting. It also affects Stitch and other ways a post can be used. Allowing Duet for other users requires a public account; availability also depends on the account's other restrictions and on the video. The absence of a button is not permission to download someone else's clip and upload it again.
Check the setting on the specific post and separately on the account. For a future joint publication, it is useful to exchange a test: both participants see the needed tool and understand which fragment is being used. When working with music, additionally check its terms for commercial content.
Be careful with managing your history
TikTok warns that deleting all related posts through the reuse history may also delete the original post along with the Duet/Stitch. Do not choose mass deletion if you only wanted to prohibit new remixes. First save your own original and read the action confirmation.
Evaluate the result by the quality of the joint explanation and by genuine inquiries. The number of remixes does not automatically mean an engaged audience or sales.
