When a TikTok post promotes your business or is created in the interests of a partner, check the setting for disclosing the commercial nature of the content. The platform distinguishes between promoting your own brand and a paid partnership. You need to choose the option based on the actual relationship, not on which label looks more attractive.
Distinguishing the two cases
In TikTok's official help, your own brand corresponds to Promotional content, while content for another business is a Paid partnership. A commercial connection may include not only monetary payment but also other benefits provided. This describes the platform's rules, not a definition of all of the creator's obligations under the laws of a particular country.
A hypothetical workshop films its own product: before publishing, the team establishes whose product is being promoted. If the creator receives a product from another brand in exchange for a post, that is already a different scenario; it cannot be described as an independent purchase without a relationship with the seller.
Check before sending
On the post screen, find Content disclosure and ads; in some versions of the interface it is located among additional settings. Check the selected type, the post's label, and the agreement with the partner. Do not enable permission for advertising use automatically: read what actions it grants and to whom.
Keep information about the agreed version of the post for the team. TikTok's help notes that an incorrectly selected published label cannot be changed by simply toggling it; therefore, checking in advance is especially useful. Before deleting an existing post, review the available procedure in your version of the app.
What this setting does not solve
Disclosing a commercial connection does not grant rights to music, other people's images, or promises about a product. It also does not replace checking the admissibility of the offer itself and the requirements of applicable law. Do not claim guaranteed reach after enabling or disabling the label: the task here is to correctly explain the nature of the post to the viewer.
