A TikTok draft should not be treated as a portable backup of the video. Before switching phones or reinstalling the app, save the source materials and the editing plan separately. The official help documentation warns that drafts may disappear after such actions and are not transferred between accounts.
What to save besides the finished cut
For each important draft, gather the source video, photos, your own text, the order of scenes, and information about the music that is permitted for use. If the app allows you to save the finished version, check the file outside TikTok: whether there is sound, whether all captions are visible, and whether the ending is cut off. Exporting a finished video is not the same as an editable project.
A hypothetical creator is preparing three product demonstrations. He creates a separate folder for each one with a version number. In a short note, he indicates the start of scenes, the on-screen text, and the chosen final frame. Such a set will help reassemble the video even if the internal structure of the draft cannot be restored.
Check before changing the device
Open the saved source files on another device and make sure they are the actual files, not just links to the local storage of the old phone. Compare the list of drafts with the folders. Only after that should you proceed with the planned device change or reinstallation.
Do not publish an unfinished video for everyone just to save it. A separate published post and a draft have different life cycles. The ability to restore a deleted post in TikTok's help documentation is not a promise to restore a disappeared draft.
If the draft has already disappeared
Check the original device and the correct account without performing a series of reinstallations at random. If there is no copy, assemble the material from your own source files and contact the platform's support with a description of the situation. There is no universal confirmed way to bring back any draft; a third-party "recovery service" does not need your login codes.
