Automatic Telegram translation helps you read someone else's post, but before acting you need to verify the date, number, name and negation against the original. This is especially true for signing up for a meeting: a clear phrase in your language does not yet confirm that the translation correctly conveyed the time and terms.
Start with a single message
Telegram describes translating a selected message, and for Premium — translating entire chats via the translation panel. These are reader capabilities, not an obligation on the author to check every automatically displayed version. Check the available actions and languages in your app.
First translate one short post and find its meaning anchors in the original: who is acting, what they are doing, by what deadline. If the translation is unclear, copy the disputed phrase into a message to the author along with your question, rather than forwarding a confident interpretation to other participants.
Check on a conditional announcement
Let's imagine a text about a meeting: registration closes on Friday, the meeting itself takes place on Saturday, the time is given in Moscow time. Write out three separate fields — the registration deadline, the start of the event, the time zone. After translating, fill them in again and compare with the source.
Separately check sentences with the words "not", "before", "after" and "except". An error in such a word can change the reader's action more than poor style. It is better to verify the name of the organization and the address character by character, especially if the app translates an ordinary word inside the name.
How an author can make checking easier
Write the month in words, specify the time zone and separate the registration deadline from the meeting date. Do not hide key instructions only in an image: the text of the message and the text of the image may be processed differently. This is a recommendation for making the source clearer, not a guarantee of machine translation.
For a critical announcement in another language, prepare a separate proofread version. Label its language and update date, and link it to the original. If the time changes, update both versions. Views of an automatically translated post by themselves do not show how many people correctly understood the offer.
Scheme: 1 — read the translation; 2 — verify dates and meaning against the original; 3 — clarify any ambiguity before acting.
