A private bot reply inside a group chat is suitable for giving a hint to a specific participant: what data to prepare, where to find the instructions, why the command did not work. General rules and information needed by everyone should remain available to the whole group.
What Telegram has confirmed
The July 14 update 2026 describes ephemeral messages: the reply is seen by the bot and the specific user. This scenario must be implemented by the bot developer. The platform having the feature does not mean that any installed bot already supports it.
Example for a workshop group
A visitor asks how to prepare an item for repair. The general pinned message contains the rules and contacts. On request, the bot shows the person a private memo: photograph the damage, write down the model, choose a convenient time. Every identical memo is not sent to the group chat.
First describe the scenario on paper: the command, the recipient, the short reply, and the handoff to a human in case of an error. Give the developer two test cases: an ordinary participant receives their own hint; a neighboring participant does not see it. Add a check for an old client and a repeated command. If the feature is unavailable, suggest opening a private chat with the bot; do not send private information publicly as a fallback.
What must not be promised
Limited visibility does not equal data disappearing, end-to-end encryption, or the absence of logs for the bot owner. Do not transmit a password, login code, payment details, or other people's orders through such a reply. Verify that the bot identifies the recipient by the actual request, not by the name written in the message.
A public reply is still needed to discuss a general question. Otherwise, different participants will receive incompatible terms and will not be able to refer to the rules. Before launch, appoint a person who corrects incorrect hints, and keep a version of the memo text.
