Two-step verification on Telegram adds a password for signing in to your account. It is best to set it up in advance, together with an accessible recovery address and protection for that email itself. This is a separate task from reviewing the list of sessions that are already open.
Preparation without losing access
The official help documentation points to the section "Settings → Privacy and Security → Two-Step Verification". The names of the items may differ between apps. Before changing your protection, make sure you are using your own account and that you control the linked number and email.
Choose a separate password and store it in a suitable secure manager. Do not place it in a pinned message in a work chat and do not pass it to employees along with instructions for administering the channel. Team rights to a channel are granted through roles, not through shared access to a personal account.
Recovery email
Enter an address that belongs to you and complete the confirmation according to the app's instructions. Then check that you can sign in to that email and that its own recovery methods are up to date. Telegram recommends protecting it with a strong password and additional verification when it is available.
A hypothetical example of a mistake: a channel owner used the email of a former contractor. Having the address in the settings does not guarantee that recovery is possible — actual control over the mailbox is required. Such a dependency should be corrected before the main device is lost.
What to check next
Make sure the setting is enabled and read the recovery information shown by the app. Do not sign out of your only available session just as an experiment. If the password has already been forgotten, use Telegram's standard procedure and the conditions it shows; no universal recovery period is promised here.
An additional password does not protect against all device-related risks and does not replace checking active sessions. Login codes, the password, and access to email are not needed by a promotion service to place an order via a public link.
