Spotify release: what to check before the first announcement

Files, artist profile, pitching, links, and materials for the announcement: preparing a release you won't have to fix on premiere day.

A day before the premiere, you want to be choosing a frame for the announcement. It's far more unpleasant to discover at that moment that the track went to an artist with the same name, there's a typo in the cover art, and the link leads to an old single. A little checking in advance leaves release day to the music and the listeners.

Four stages of release preparation: files, profile, pitching, and a working link

Put together a single release card

Create a document from which the team will take the title, date, cover art, and links. Even if the team consists of you and a friend who makes videos. Specify the artist name exactly as it should appear on the platform, the recording participants, the track version, and the person responsible for uploading.

Place the final audio file, the cover art, and a short description next to it. Name the final version unambiguously: an archive of "final", "final2", and "definitely_final" easily turns into a mistake. Separately check approvals with co-authors and the rights to the materials used.

For distributing music, Spotify suggests working through a distributor. The terms and timelines of a specific distributor need to be checked before choosing the announcement date. Spotify help.

Make sure everything is under the right artist

In Spotify for Artists, check the expected release and the profile it belongs to. Verify the name, photo, description, cover art, and track list. If something doesn't match, leave time to contact the distributor's support. Don't count on fixing an unknown problem between publishing the announcement and the start of the ad placement.

Ask someone who wasn't involved in the preparation to read the card. They're more likely to notice a discrepancy between the name on the poster and the name in the profile: the author quickly gets used to a familiar spelling.

Prepare the pitch as a description of a specific song

Through Spotify for Artists, you can pitch an unreleased song to editors. At the time of checking, Spotify recommends delivering music at least seven days before release; submitting a pitch does not guarantee editorial placement. Pitching rules.

Instead of "a unique track that will win hearts," write down what can be heard: tempo, mood, lead instruments, language, the circumstances of the recording. A short story about a real choice in the arrangement is more useful than five epithets. Don't invent concerts, media support, or statistics for the sake of persuasiveness.

Walk the listener's path from a phone

Open the future landing page from the app where the announcement will go out. Check whether the title is readable, whether it's easy to choose a platform, and whether the page asks for unnecessary actions. After release, repeat the check with the actual track link.

Prepare three separate pieces of material: the announcement itself, a short music clip, and a backup post with the story of the recording. Each should have a clear next step. "Listen to the full track" is enough; several competing requests in one short post make the choice harder.

What to leave for premiere day

In the morning, verify the release's availability and all published links. Then reply to listeners and write down what questions they ask. If a link breaks, fix it in all planned placements, not just in the pinned post.

In the Spotify catalog, check the subject and limitations of the specific service. Spotify warns about artificial plays: guaranteed streams or a playlist spot do not confirm listener interest.

If a separate public announcement in Telegram has been prepared for a finished release, you can look at the terms for views of this post. The form below applies only to the Telegram announcement: it does not upload music, does not perform pitching, and does not order Spotify plays. Purchased activity does not guarantee an organic audience, a playlist, or income. Sources and transition terms rechecked on 22 September 2026.

Save the release card after the premiere. On the next single, it will become a short checklist, and you won't have to recall mistakes and successful decisions from chat history.
