Canvas is best made as a short visual story for a single track that remains clear on repeat. Do not try to fit the entire music video, the lyrics, and an advertisement into it. It is more important to choose an image that matches the music and does not require a long explanation.
Format and access
Spotify's official help defines Canvas as a vertical loop lasting 3–8 seconds in the mobile playback screen. It also describes the Admin/Editor roles and the conditions for the main artist. Before preparing, make sure your team has access to the required track.
Storyboarding the loop
A conventional example is a track about returning home. First moment: light in the window; second: movement of a shadow; third: the initial state again. The visual loop does not have to literally depict every line. If understanding it requires reading a large paragraph, the idea should be simplified.
First draw three frames and describe the transitions. Then check the junction between the end and the beginning: an accidental jolt may look like a mistake. If the jump is intentional, make sure it does not hide an important object. Do not use someone else's video without the appropriate rights.
Review on a phone
Check the visibility of the object in the vertical frame, the absence of cropped details, and readability if text is still necessary. Verify technical requirements and content restrictions against the current Canvas guidelines at the link from Spotify's help; do not take parameters from someone else's old template.
Watch several loops in a row. If the image distracts from the song or quickly becomes tiring, reduce the amount of motion. This is an editorial assessment, not a proven way to increase saves or payouts.
