If the buyer reached checkout and stopped, first find out at which step this happened: opening the form, going to the provider, attempting payment, or returning to the site. Different causes must not be lumped together under the phrase "people don't want to pay."
Map of the last confirmed step
Save only the necessary technical details: time, device in general terms, page, and the observed error. Do not ask for the full card number, confirmation code, or password. When working with support, use the private order number and an anonymized screenshot, if one is needed.
A hypothetical case: the button was clicked, but the provider's page did not open. This differs from a case where the provider reported a decline. And returning to the site without payment confirmation does not yet mean either success or a final decline: the server-side status of the transaction is needed.
Check by the page owner
First check the visibility of the final amount and the terms before proceeding. Then — the availability of the selected method, the opening of the destination, and a correct return. Do not create real charges just to test text or a link. For technical reproduction, use the designated safe test process while keeping the live settings.
If the amount differs from the expected one, check the quantity and add-ons. If the redirect does not work, record the error and pass it to the responsible person. If the payment cannot be confirmed, do not ask the buyer to immediately repeat it: first rule out a double charge from the first attempt.
When there are no technical errors
Check whether the mandatory terms appear too late. Separate a misunderstanding of the offer from a payment problem. Do not explain every incomplete checkout by price: the person may have been distracted, comparing options, or may not have intended to buy right now.
